Department of Civil Engineering

Applications from highly motivated young persons are invited for one temporary project position as per the details given below:

Post: RA/JRF/SRF (One post)

Project Title: “An experimental and numerical assessment of Indian crushable sands under cyclic loading” no: CSIR/CE/2017169

Minimum Qualification: For Research Associate (RA) post doctorate (PhD) or equivalent degree in Civil engineering or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after ME/MTech in Geotechnical Engineering. If a suitable candidate is not found for RA post, appointment may be considered at the level of JRF or SRF. JRF post requires B.Tech (Civil Engineering) or equivalent degree with 55% marks and passing of GATE test. SRF post requires B.Tech (Civil Engineering) and at least 2 years of post-B.Tech research experience as evidenced from standard journal publications or M.Tech or equivalent degree in Geotechnical Engineering.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate with background in soil mechanics, with experience in programing (MATLAB), constitutive model development, and numerical analysis will be preferred.

Nature of Work: The major part of the work at this stage involves rigorous numerical modeling and programing. So far, in this project we have carried out a series of triaxial tests (monotonic and cyclic) on crushable sand. Those data will be utilized for devising a constitutive model to capture the response of such crushable sand under cyclic loading condition. The model also needs to be implemented within a FE package. In addition to the numerical work, the project employee may need to visit sites in order to collect crushable sand/soil samples.
