SONGTRAIN; Code.Fun.Do Microsoft Hackathon 2017

  • Online karaoke generating web-app built on the Django framework.
  • Declared a joint winner of the Hackathon held at the Microsoft campus, Hyderabad, on 12 May 2017, where 37 teams from 15 IITs and other colleges participated.
  • Built by first year IITK students Raghav Aggarwal, Surya Teja and Lakshay Bandlish.

ALIGNO; Red Dot Design Award 2017

  • Interactive three-layered physical map of the IITK campus.
  • While the first layer has a map, the second and the third layers depict the names of the buildings in an alphabetical order in red and green colors, respectively.
  • When aligned properly, a red and a green dot appear on the map informing the user about the positions of the two locations - FROM and TO.
  • An algorithm is developed to find the optimum positions of dots without overlapping with the other dots.

Designed by Mr. Karthik P., a design student, under the supervision of Prof. Koumudi Patil.

AMAZON ROBOTICS CHALLENGE, 2017

  • IITK robotics team, in partnership with the TCS, ended up fourth in the third Amazon Robotics Challenge held in July in Nagoya, Japan.
  • The challenge tests the robotics hardware and software for its object recognition, pose recognition, grasp planning, compliant manipulation, motion planning, task planning, task execution, and error detection and recovery abilities.
  • The team has won $15,000 as the award money.

MATTAM; James Dyson Award 2017

  • A retrofit patient transfer system that can be put on top of any wheeled stretcher with flat top surface and height adjustment facility, converting it into a transfer stretcher.

Designed by Asish Mohandas, a product design student. He becomes the first ever Indian to win the coveted award.
