The course will also be augmented by a visit to the Advanced machining laboratory, Microsystems fabrication laboratory, 4i laboratory, DST unit on nano-sciences and also the ACMS. The course will enable the participants to get a solid exposure for advanced micro/nano technologies.

Purpose of the Workshop

Miniaturization drive has resulted from the increased needs of the industry to produce devices that occupy very less size and are time and energy efficient. Today we have a bundle of such products in almost all walks of life like aerospace, defence, microelectronics, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, communication systems, machining technologies etc. The advanced micro/ nano technologies offer aplatform for providing hardware in realizing miniaturised products like sensors, actuating devices, optical devices, fluidic devices etc.Further, there are two important components in the platform which serve as enablers to realize thesedevices. The first component is to be able to realize the length scale for elements which would provide the primary mode of functionality for the device and the second aspect lies in the integration and packaging which would allow the successful deployment of such devices in field. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has many such aligned areas of research in its current research mandate to the topic of the proposed workshop where there is a need for specialized training. Through the proposed course spanning around 05 days (including laboratory visits) we plan to enable information flow necessary for sustenance of the existing research ecosystem in this area.

  2. Healthcare technologies and Environmental systems.
  3. Advanced micro/ nanomachining processes.
  4. Microfluidic systems.
  5. Nanofinishing processes.
