We are pleased to announce a TEQIP workshop to discuss Materials and Metallurgy curriculum. This workshop will be held at NIT Srinagar (J&K) during 8-9 October 2015.

In this workshop, we plan to engage with the selected faculty members of selected IITs, NITs, IISc Bangalore and a few other TEQIP affiliated instituted providing undergraduate degrees in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering. Hence, we request you to nominate the one or two faculty members from your institute for the aforementioned workshop.

The need for organizing such a workshop arises from the changing face of Metallurgy and Materials Science all over the world and India is not a isolated case either. To prepare the students for national needs in industry, research as well as academia, the curriculum must evolve in such a fashion that departments are able to engage the students both depth as well breadth wise whilst not sacrificing on the core concepts.

In the workshop, discussions will take place on:

  1. Philosophy behind teaching of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering UG and PG Programs
  2. Objectives and evolution of course materials with changing times
  3. Existing courses and lab component
  4. How to balance theoretical concepts and hands-on skills of the students
  5. Balancing of core and elective courses
  6. Relevance to industry as well as higher education and/or research
  7. Discussions to evolve a model curricula which should be able to motivate the students with the framework of existing strengths of the participating institutions.
