Training
for Small Business
Training for the SSI sector
is offered by many different institutions, mostly supported at public
expense. The primary network of organisations is directed by the
central Ministry of Small Scale Industries & Agro & Rural
Industries. Over the
years, with incremental changes in policy, and with natural changes
in the economic environment, this central network of organisations
has perhaps become unwieldy, and perhaps self-perpetuating.
Even within this network,
it is necessary for an entrepreneur, or for a prospective one, to
understand just Where the real training is available.
Clearly, there is a lot of excellent training that business families
impart to their young ones or the business organisations impart
to their employees on-the-job. Aside from this, training for SSI
is largely available through the following five ways.
1.
SISI Training Programs: Every state has one or more
Small Industries Service Institute. These have been set up to promote
ssi’s and, in the licensing days, to provide govrnment controlled
materials. With changes in the business environment, some SISI’s
have developed a fair amount of training activity. The training
activity at SISINewDelhi
is one of the best examples.
2.
NSIC
Training: An apex organisation
for small scale industry, NSIC is located in Delhi and offers some
training programmes.
3.
National
Institute for Small scale Education & Training
(NISIET) located at Hyderabad
is a specialised organisation set up by the central government to
provide training for this sector. It now provides a very large number
of programmes directed to the bigger SSI’s.
4.
Indian
Institute of Entrepreneurship
(IIE) is another apex institution.
This has a wide spectrum of programmes directed to
creating and improving the entrepreneurial ventures.
5. Small Industries Development
Bank of India (SIDBI) has funded
training programmes through a number of key national
institutions in technology and management.
