Avinash Singh, b. 1958 Varanasi, studied at the Science College, Banaras Hindu University during 1975-1980,
and   attended   NSTS   Summer   Schools   at  BHU  (1976),  IIT  Kanpur  (1977, 78)   and   TIFR   (1979).
He  obtained  his  Ph.D.  degree  in  1987  from  the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was
also a  member of  the Physics Department  Soccer team,  played keyboard with the local Tagore music group,
and  took  motorcycling  lessons with the AMA. In 1988 he moved to the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore
as  a  Research  Associate  where  he  participated  in  the  excitement  of  the  early  high-T days.  He  joined
IIT Kanpur as a Faculty  Member  in 1991,  where he  is presently  Professor of  Physics and a  member of the
Faculty Cricket  Team. He  worked  in  the  EKM   (Elektronische  Korrelationen  und  Magnetismus)  Division
at  the Universitaet  Augsburg  in  Southern  Bavaria  during 1997-1998 on  a  AvH  Research Fellowship.
