IGCAR-IITK Cell

An IGCAR-IITK cell has recently been created at our Institute. Specific areas of research identified in the MOU include mechanics and materials, thermal hydraulics, multi-scale modeling, instrumentation, mechanisms, and machine vision. As a first step, IGCAR Kalpakkam has granted nine projects (listed below) in the area of mechanics for a total amount of Rs 1.65 crores.

  1. Modeling Creep Deformation and Damage in two Austenitic Stainless Steels using the Hierarchical model, Dr. Sivasambu Mahesh, Mechanical and Aerospace Engg
  2. Thermal Ratcheting in Cylindrical Pipes due to an Axially Oscillating Temperature Front, Dr. Ishan Sharma & Dr. P.M. Dixit, Mechanical Engg
  3. Dynamics of a Single Fuel subassembly in a Loose bearing, Dr. Pankaj Wahi, Mechanical Engg
  4. Study of shear Banding in Alloy D9, Dr. Sivasambu Mahesh, Mechanical and Aerospace Engg
  5. Wetting of Liquid Sodium on Metal and Alloy Surfaces Dr. Jayant K. Singh, Chemical Engg
  6. Characterization of Constraint effect in Evaluating Dynamic Fracture Toughness Based DBTT using FEM/numerical modeling for Plain 9Cr-1Mo Steel, Dr. C. S. Upadhyay, Aerospace Engg
  7. Development of Continuum Damage Mechanics Model for Cyclic Thermal Stresses, Dr. C. S. Upadhyay, Aerospace Engg
  8. Investigation of Azimuthal Flow Oscillations in the Heat Exchanger, Dr. Mahendra K. Verma, Physics
  9. Parametric Instabilities in a thin-walled vessel Dr. Pankaj Wahi, Mechanical Engg
