Office of International Relations (OIR), IIT Kanpur is the point of contact for all International students arriving to the campus for any course. OIR can be contacted even prior to arrival for queries on Visa, registration, accommodation and other help.

5– Is financial aid available to foreign students?

Yes, it is available for some specific courses under various scholarship schemes funded by Ministry and in some cases, the institute also.

6– What are the options for foreign students to apply at IIT Kanpur?

Foreign students can apply directly to IIT Kanpur. Apart from that there are other routes of entry also such as through Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Study in India (SII), Doctoral Fellowship in India for ASEAN(DIA).

7– What is the procedure for FRRO registration?

Foreign nationals visiting India for more than 180 days on a student visa, business visa, medical visa, research visa or employment visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO). For FRRO registration the student has to report to OIR office and OIR will help students get registered at FRRO.

8– Where can foreign currency be converted?

Foreign currency can be converted at Western Union Center in Kanpur City or the student can open a NRO bank account at campus Bank (State Bank of India) and have their foreign currency converted through that.

9– Is there any counselling service that a student can avail?

At IIT Kanpur, we have a professional team of counsellors, empathetic students and faculty advisors to assist the student academically and emotionally.

10– What are the various other amenities and services available?

A number of amenities and services such as gliding club, gymnasium, swimming pool, banks, post- office, shopping complex, schools and day care facilities, etc. are available on the campus itself.
