Review Workshop for Resource Material in Earthquake Engineering
for Faculty Members from Engineering Colleges across India
01 – 05 August 2005 at IIT Kanpur

A review workshop was organized at the National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering (www.nicee.org) at IIT Kanpur during 01 – 05 August 2005. The aim of this workshop was to enable interested faculty members to collect resource material, literature for teaching earthquake engineering related subjects. Thirty faculty members from different engineering colleges across the country participated in the above workshop. The participating teachers collected the resource material during this workshop as per their need to teach/develop earthquake engineering related courses. Further, demonstrations of state-of-the art equipment and testing facilities related to earthquake engineering available at IIT Kanpur were made during the workshop. Also, during the week-long workshop, video shows on selected lessons from past earthquakes have been screened and an Earthquake Engineering Quiz was also the part of the activity of the workshop. The faculty members of the department of civil engineering at IIT Kanpur, who specialize in the area of earthquake engineering had the discussions with the workshop participants and Research Scholars at IIT Kanpur also made presentations during the workshop. The workshop was sponsored by the National Programme on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE), an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India.

The workshop was inaugurated by Professor S. C. Koria, the Head, Centre for Development of Technical Education at IIT Kanpur on 01 August 2005 at the Pioneer Batch Continuing Education Centre, IIT Kanpur. Professor Sudhir K. Jain, National Coordinator, NPEEE addressed the participants and informed about the NPEEE activities. Professor C.V.R. Murty of the civil engineering department welcomed the participants of the workshop and workshop coordinator Dr. K.K. Bajpai placed the vote of thanks.
