Korean Delegation from GIST visited at IIT Kanpur

A three-member delegation from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Republic of Korea, visited IIT Kanpur on April 4th & 5th, 2006. Though they said that they were keen to exchange technical education programme, no final decision could be taken in this regard at the preliminary meeting.

The delegation members, including Chung Yong Joo, Wang se Myung and Mahalik Nitaigour Premchand, held meetings with the director of the Institue Dr. Sanjay G Dhande and other faculty members.

They had also addressed the students and told them about the research and technical education facilities available in the technical institutes of Korea.

They told the students that the technical universitites in Korea had enough funds to give scholarships to the students who wanted to do higher studies and research work there. They further said that there were ample opportunities for graduate and post-graduate-level studies. Besides, the country offered a lot of opportunities to those who wanted to study information and communication technology, material science, engineering, environmental science, mechatronics and life sciences, they added. They said that the university provided one-way economy class air fare to the students who joint Gwangju University , free dormitory, a monthly stipend of $330 and additional research assistantship and government scholarships up to $14,000 per annum.
