A short-term course on Environmental Economics & Environmental Impact Assessment is being organized at IITK from May 18-24, 2004. The course is aimed at creating awareness among the teachers / researchers / scientist / economists / sociologists / engineers from engineering institutions / universities to understand the various dimensions involving sustainable development of our economic policies in relation to environment and society (i.e. mainstreaming environment for economic development).

The course was inaugurated by Shri J. Mahapatra, General Manager, Feroze Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Project, Unchahar, Rae Bareli & it was presided over by Prof. Kripa Shankar, Acting Director of the Institute. In his presentational remark Prof. Kripa Shankar threw light on the role of environmental studies in an academic institution like IIT Kanpur. The course commenced with an introductory remark by Prof. Binayak Rath, the co-ordinator of the course. Prof. S.C. Koria, Head, Center for Development of Technical Education, welcomed the participants and the guests. Prof. A.K. Sharma, Head of H.S.S. Department introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering.
