Machining is known to impart very large deformation not only on the chips that come out, but also on the surface of the work-piece. Since machining allows handle over velocity as well as rake angle, one can modulate strain, strain-rate and the induced temperature during such large deformation. This leads to myriad of microstructural transformations of the chip and the surface. In our recent work we have shown that such microstructural transformation have large effect on the mechanical as well as the functional properties (corrosion and oxidation) of the material
