Winter School on Physical Geodesy and its applications:

Geodesy, the discipline of measuring and representing the earth’s surface, is one of the oldest sciences, which forms the fundamental basis for any earth related studies, including its atmosphere, oceans and biosphere. In particular, geoid determination helps in various earth science applications such as definition of vertical datums, transformation of height systems, local and regional vertical datum unification, monitoring of sea-level rise, subsidence, plate tectonics, and crustal movement studies.

Through this school, we are bringing together national and international experts in Geodesy, who over a course of 10 days, will guide and mentor the participants on the theory, principles and scientific computations in Physical Geodesy. With renowned professors in the field of Physical Geodesy, namely, Prof. Sten Classen and Prof. Will Featherstone from Curtin University, and Prof. Balaji Devaraju, Prof. B. Nagarajan and Prof. Onkar Dikshit from IIT Kanpur as course instructors, we hope to have fruitful interactions through lectures, labs and discussion hours. The school is recommended for students, researchers, faculty members and professionals seeking to familiarize themselves with the concepts and applications of Physical Geodesy.
