Conference > How to reach Kanpur

Following is the information on how to reach Kanpur from different cities in India.

We try to keep the information on this site current, but please do let us know if some timings have changed, and are not reflected on this site. Do check with your travel service provider for the latest information.

How to Reach IIT

Taxis are easily available from the Cantt side of the Kanpur Central Railway Station (from Platform number 1 side). There is a pre-paid auto and taxi booth. The rates are Rs. 180 for a taxi, and Rs. 100 for an auto. Sometimes you may be able to negotiate a few rupees less with the driver, if you don not go to the pre-paid booth. If you asked your host to book a taxi in advance, then the rate is Rs. 200 for non-AC, and Rs. 250 for AC taxi. But they will also take waiting charges, if the train is more than one hour late. Waiting charges are Rs. 25 per hour. (Even though the cost is slightly higher, the vehicles will be much better maintained, and the ride much smoother. The city taxis will be old dilapitated Ambassadors, while these taxis will be like Esteem/Santro/Indica, etc. If it is a Maruti Van, then pay only Rs. 180.)

Lucknow Airport also has taxis available, but they can ask for any arbitrary amount. The best thing is to ask your host in IIT Kanpur in advance to book a taxi for you. Depending on the type of vehicle, these taxis will charge between Rs 950 and Rs. 1050. (Charge for Air-conditioned taxi is only Rs. 100 extra.)
