The advances in computational mechanics have transformed the way problems in engineering and science are tackled today. Problems in mechanics of solids, structure-fluid interaction and their scientific disciplines are investigated through computational mechanics and implemented in engineering design and manufacturing. Computational mechanics has emerged as a key area of research and application.

The Indian Association for Computational Mechanics (IndACM) was founded on January 1, 2000 to bring together this community to have meaningful interaction to further the growth of computational mechanics in different disciplines. To achieve this objective the First International Congress on Computational Mechanics and Simulation (ICCMS-04) is being organized at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India (IITK) during 9-12 December, 2004. The purpose of the Congress is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers and designers in universities, laboratories and industry to share their research findings to further the cause of computational mechanics.
