Due to increased interconnections and loading of the network, power utilities are facing challenges in their optimal, secure and economic operation. They need fast computation tool based on simple and robust methods to tackle any eventuality in the system. Rrestructuring of electric supply industries (ESI) is taking place, all over the world, in different forms. India has already taken the first step in the direction of restructuring, in the form of unbundling generation, transmission and distribution business. Smart grid initiatives are going to play a vital role in renewable energy sources and ICT usage.

The main objective of this course is to enhance the knowledge of the participants in the modern trends of power system operation and control including security analysis, optimal power flow, stability, reliability and grid management. Future power system structure and operation will be quite different from the existing one. This course will also provide a platform to an in-depth discussion on the various challenges the ESI will face in future for their operation and management and also the possible remedies.
