Ashoke Sen does IIT Kanpur Proud . . .
This year IIT Kanpur received the warmest of gifts . . . Dr. Ashoke Sen, Professor at Mehta Research Institute, Allahabad, was conferred the honour of being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for seminal contributions to Superstring theory. He (in his early forties) is one of the younger recipients of this fellowship. Dr. Sen, who received the M.Sc. (Physics) degree from IIT Kanpur in the year 1978, is the first student of IIT Kanpur to be conferred with this honour.
On behalf of all faculty members, staff and students of IIT Kanpur, DIRECTIONS expresses heartfelt and warm greetings to Dr. Sen for this rare distinction, and wishes him many more laurels in the years ahead.
NWTF to be Dedicated to the Nation
One of the finest wind tunnels built in India, the National Wind Tunnel Facility at IIT Kanpur, will be dedicated to the Nation on 24 January 1999. To perform this pleasant task, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Advisor, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, will be present on campus.
IIT Kanpur to confer Doctor of Science on Dr. Abdul Kalam
In recognition of the long-standing contributions of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to missile technology, and thereby to the strategic defence capabilities of the Nation, IIT Kanpur will confer the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) on Dr. Kalam at a Special Convocation of the Institute to be held on 24 January 1999.
