Large & Loud
The Montage Film Fest of IIT Kanpur (1st -3rd Feb) is not just a celebration or an event, but an experience. An experience that we hope will change your outlook on cinema. Main-stream or Bollywood is but a small part of our rich cinematic heritage and we hope that the festival would provide the campus with an opportunity to experience great cinema, both contemporary and classic, that has often gone unnoticed by many of us . The festival would not only broaden and enhance the viewing experience of the audience but also introduce them to the wonders of artistic qualities of the media .
The festival would involve the screening of an array of movies of various genres spanning regional cinema to world classics. Movies, that you have perhaps heard of and wanted to watch but never got chance to do so.
Apart from showcasing some of the most unique of Indian cinema, a major feature of the festival are the informal discussions by some of the most talented personalities of Indian cinema. We hope these discussions would provide an insiders perspective of cinema that would help us appreciate and understand this medium that has become an integral part of our lives.
Atul Tiwari

Atul ji is a famous name in Mumbai film industry as well as the South Indian film industry. His career ranges from directing plays to writing screenplays for films, making bio-pictures and television serials, and lately, multimedia. He has worked with big names in the industry, including scripting for films like Dashavtaram ,Mission Kashmir, Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahi, Agni Varsha and Dharavi . His upcoming movie is Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam , which he has co-written with Hassan. Atul ji has been conducting lectures and workshops for screenwriting and film appreciation in the top institutes of India including IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur . He is an effective speaker and learned of Indian cinema who will be sharing his experience of decades .
Girish Kulkarni

Marathi actor Girish Kulkarni won this year's National award for Best Actor .This award winning performance came in film Deool which also won National award for best film of the year . He won the National award for the best screenplay too for the same film. Currently working with Anurag Kashyap , Girish is a qualified mechanical engineer too . As he himself told in an interview - " For many years I worked as an engineer and moonlighted as an actor . Then I finally did what my heart told me. I became a full-fledged actor."

Unni Vijayan

Having studied editing in the Film and Television Institute, Pune, he started editing for television, documentaries, music videos and films. A graduate in philosophy, Unni explored various forms of creative expressions before settling into film-making. The need to explore more pulled him into television programming and directing music videos, documentaries and short films and now this feature film 'Lessons In Forgetting'. Unni Vijayan was awarded with Director - Outstanding Achievement In International Feature Filmmaking - Williamsburg International Film Festival , New York (2012) .His film 'Lessons In Forgetting' was screened at many international film festivals like - Rome International Film Festival , Williamsburg International Film Festival, New York and Sunset International Film Festival, Los Angeles .

Poster Design
Minimal literally means the least possible. The movie posters are minimal if they are not full of extravagant photo-manipulated images, but still manage to impart full idea and concept of the movie. Everyone who has seen Dabangg would easily think of the film by the iconic sunglasses only. The highest level of sophistication is simplicity. The Last Act

It started with a simple idea. Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra and Chakri Toleti will choose 12 directors from across India to make 10 minute short films. Each film will be part of a larger story. Not a collection of short stories but an integral part of a larger story. The main plot was written by Anurag Kashyap. Then the madness started. The 12 directors were chosen from 600 entries. They were given the plot and they came back with their section. Set in 12 different cities. formatting.

The funniest video as decided by the viewers will be announced the winner. The video must not be vulgar and should not be containing anything which could hurt anybody's sentiments. Sudhir Mishra, best known for his much acclaimed film "Hazaro Khwahishein Aisi " is a well known Film director and screen-writer . He made his directorial debut with the film, Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin in 1987 which won the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director . He later made acclaimed films like "Main Zinda Hoon (1988), Dharavi"(1991), Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996) ,Chameli (2003), Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005) , Khoya Khoya Chand ( 2007 ), Yeh Saali Zindagi (2010) . Nitin Chandra, a young filmmaker and a Visionary, courageous and blatantly honest entrepreneur has been making films for social causes since 2008 , when he founded the company Champaran Talkies . Chandra finds his pride and stories in Bihar, a state in India widely shunned by the populace, but a region rich in culture, traditions, languages, religions and spirituality. Just like him, his films and stories are not mainstream . With a seed capital of Rs. 5,000, Champaran Talkies has already produced two films and is now producing a third. The spirit of the entrepreneur always leaps ahead in time though. Chandra’s vision for 2010 is to generate more jobs through filmmaking and create a market for films in Bihar .Working toward the development of Bihar through Cinema as a medium is mission of his life..

Starting his career as a model , Jha later turned into an actor and theatre person. He has acted in several famous plays including the famous "Aao Sathi Sapna Dekhein " directed by National award winner Swanand Kirkire . He was the lead actor in the acclaimed Bhojpuri film "Deswa" which is the first bhojpuri film screened at any international film festival .
Abhijit Das

Abhijit Das was an advertising professional for 12 years before he found his calling in film making. He assisted Mohit Suri and then became Anurag Basu's Associate Director. He conceived the Large Short Films concept at Showhouse Events where he is the National Creative Director. Along with Royal Stag Mega Movies, Showhouse Films created Large Short Films, which is fast becoming the largest platform for indie short filmmakers. Abhijit executed The Last Act along with Anurag Kashyap for Royal Stag Mega Movies, where 12 directors were chosen across 12 cities to make 12 films which would join to make one feature film. Abhijit himself is making one short film for LSF. Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra, Chakri Toleti and Samar Khan are some of the greats who will be making short films for LSF in the coming months.
