Thesis Title:

Tectono-geomorphic controls on landscape evolution and sediment storage-evacuation history in Dehra Dun, NW Himalaya, India

Abstract:

The study area includes the Western part of Dehradun valley of NW Himalayas. The main objective of this research is to come out with a model which explains the role of the climate and tectonics to form the present day geomorphology of the intermountain valley. Geographical Information System allows quantitative measurements of landforms and the identification of geomorphological features and parameters related to active tectonics at a wide variety of scales. The calculation of the geomorphic indices in terms to explain the active tectonics of the area and estimation of the sediment volume which is accumulated since 50,000 years in the valley and also the volume of the sediment which is removed during the erosion phase. This cycle of deposition and erosion reveals the role of the climate during that period.
