Thesis Title: Groundwater Structure and Dynamic in Ghaggar River Basin in North West India Using Hydro-Geological and Isotopic Approach.

Abstract:

The study aims to investigate the groundwater recharge, age and flow patterns in Ghaggar river basin in North-West India. The approach includes the investigation of hydrogeology and environmental isotope (³H, δ18O, δD). The hydrogeology investigation describes the aquifer geometry and integration between rainfall anomalies. The stable/radio isotopes will be helpful to identify the sources of groundwater recharge, groundwater age and dynamics, interconnection between aquifers, interaction between surface water and groundwater. The hydro-geologic investigation shows water level decline in NW India and the rate of depletion is 4.0±1.0 cm/yr (Rodell, 2009). Long term (36 year) continues monitoring of water level will describe the spatial/temporal behavior and Regional flow of groundwater. The isotopic composition of groundwater will monitor, and the groundwater sample collected from 182 locations in the Ghaggar river basin, each location will sample twice (Pre and Post Monsoon).
