  • Dr. Indra S Sen has been invited by Global Rivers Observatory to join them on their 2nd river expedition to “the mother of waters,” the Mekong River in Southeast Asia from March 15-23, 2016.

  • The Department bid farewell to Prof. S.K. Tandon who finished his three year term as D N Wadia Chair Professor on 31st December 2015. The Society of Earth Scientists organised a touching farewell function which culminated with an inspiring lecture by Prof. Tandon on History of Science in India. Prof. Tandon contributed significantly in the creation and shaping of the Department and he touched many hearts during his stay. We all wish him good health and happy life ahead.

  • Dr. D. Paul has been awarded a new project on "Establishing a Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) in the Ganga Basin sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences for a total cost of 76 lakhs. The project involves the setting of an instrumented basin for hydro-meteorological, geomorphological and water/soil quality studies in the Pandu river basin, a tributary of the Ganga river.

  • The experimental geochemistry group of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Guangzhou, China invited Dr. Santanu Misra for research collaboration in the direction of Experimental Rock Deformation.

  • Prof. Javed Malik has been awarded a research project on 'Active fault mapping' sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences for a total cost of 36 lakhs. The project will involve the compilation of all available geological and tectonic data to produce an active fault map for India.

  • Dr. D. Paul developed a state of the art stable isotope mass-spectrometry facility.

  • Dr. Rajiv Sinha has initiated the application of UAV research in Earth surface science

  • Signed a MoU with ICIMOD, Nepal to initiate a project on Kosi River titled "Sediment dynamics and sediment connectivity in the Kosi basin: implications for river hazards".

  • Dr. Ajit Singh (Ph.D student) joined as Research Associate at Department of Earth Science & Engineering Imperial College, London
