Dr. Gurmukh Mehta (MT/ME/1969) has established a faculty chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur.
Dr. Gurmukh Mehta is presently a senior scientist and vice president at Science Applications International corporation (SAIC) for over 25 years. SAIC is the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States, providing information technology, systems integration and eSolutions to commercial and government customers. He has been supporting US navy in development, upgrading, testing and simulation of Tomahawk Cruise Missiles for over 20 years. Dr. Mehta is Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International and Execuitve Advisor and past Chairman of the ASME Washington DC Section. Dr. Mehta lives with his wife Veena Mehta at Falls Church, Virginia, USA. He has three daughters, Rohini Mehta, O.D., who is practicing in Virginia; Rashi Mehta, M.D., Resident (Radiology) at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and Rupal Mehta, M.D., Resident (Neuropathology) at UCLA. Dr. Mehta obtained his BE in 1967 from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Punjab University and M Tech from IIT Kanpur in Mechanical engineering in 1969 and finally went on to complete his PhD from Brown University in 1974.
