Mr. Ajit S. Gill donates for an Endowment Fund at IITK

Mr. Ajit S Gill (B.Tech./IITK/1969) has set up ‘ Joy and Manmohan Gill Endowment Fund ' (named after his parents) to support a number of activities in the Biological Science & Bioengineering Department at IIT Kanpur. The Fund will support the following activities of the Biological Sciences and Bioengineering Department.

  • Joy Gill Chair for young faculty members
  • Baljit & Nirmal Dhinsa UG Scholarship for two students @ Rs. 2,000/- per month
  • Mona & Paramjit Singh UG Scholarship for two students @ Rs. 2,000/- per month
  • Summer Internship by UG Students in Industry
  • Summer Research by UG Students at IITK
  • Prizes for Manmohan Gill Business Plan Competition

In Mr. Gill's words “ Setting up this endowment was very important to me as a way of thanking my parents and my family. Doing it at IITK, the institution that gave me my educational foundation, was critical as a way of helping IITK continue to maintain its tradition of excellence while giving other students the opportunity to get a great education

Mr. Ajit S Gill, is presently President & CEO, Nektar Therapeutics, California, US. He is visiting IIT Kanpur on November 26, 2005 to discuss with the Institute authorities about Institute's vision and future planning.

Mr. Gill, before joining Nektar Therapeutics, was Vice-president and General Manager of Kodak's Interactive Systems Products Division; Vice-president, Finance & CFO of TRW-Fujitsu; and Director of business development at VisiCorp. He holds a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur; an M.S from University of Nebraska and an MBA from University of Western Ontario, Canada .

Mr. Gill is currently visiting India to inaugurate his new unit in Hydrabad (AP) which is going to be opened by Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science & Technology, Govt. of India. His company ‘Nektar' is planning to expand its Indian Organization where they can do more drug research and development work.
