Job Title: Sampling and analysis of groundwater and soils affected with heavy metal pollution

Project Description: This would primarily be a lab- and field-scale sampling work to estimate the extent of heavy metal pollution such as chromium, iron, arsenic from contaminated waters and soils. The work would involve extensive testing of samples using standard and advanced wet chemical methods to identify water quality parameters and chemical properties of soils.

A part of the job will also involve extensive operation and maintenance of high-end analytical instruments like Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) and Particle Size and Zeta Potential Analyzer. Besides these, sample preparation for analysis of water samples on Ion Chromatograph (IC), Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyser, as well as for analysis of solid samples on Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, X-ray Fluorescence, X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy would be required.

Junior Research Fellow: 1 (One)

Salary range: Rs.25,000/-per month + plus H.R.A. as per Institute rules (if not availing Institute residential accommodation)

Duration: All the posts are initially for one year. Based on satisfactory performance and periodic review the position could be extended further until the duration of the project or 3 years, whichever is earlier.

Desirable Qualification: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry/ Chemical/ Environmental Sciences with NET qualification or Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Civil/ Chemical Engineering with specialization in Environmental Engineering or B.Tech. in Civil or Chemical Engineering with three years of relevant experience with NET/GATE qualification.

Candidates with proven experience in analytical chemistry or environmental engineering, and hands-on experience with water quality analysis and testing by the analytical methods stated in the job description will be given preference. Candidates are expected to work in a multidisciplinary research area and should be prepared to do extensive travel for sampling and applied field work.

Interested candidates should send their CVs and a 1-page write-up on their past experience that make them suitable for this job, along with scanned copies of qualifying degrees and mark sheets as a single pdf file with name as JRF_First name_Last name.pdf to, latest by 15th September, 2019.
