H. R. Kadim Diwan Building - IIT, Kanpur

The H. R. Kadim Diwan Building at IIT Kanpur houses one of the most premier departments of the institute, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, which continues to carry out cutting-edge research and churn out brilliant minds. The building stands as a testimony of the cordial relationships that the institute shares with one of its most renowned and celebrated alumni. Inaugurated on 3rd January 2002, the building has been built with the generous donations made under the Infosys Foundation.

The three-storied centrally air conditioned building covers an area of 31,000 sq. ft. The first-floor labs are equipped with high-end Intel® Core™ i7 Processors and 8 GB RAM. The central lab can accommodate 100 users at a time, with a potential to accommodate 10-15 more users. The second-floor lab has 32 PCs each powered by the Intel® NUCs and is rated as one of the best labs in the department. The third-floor lab is mainly used for conducting computation laboratory courses. The building can support a maximum of 28 faculty offices. In addition, it has three classrooms with capacities of 100, 50, and 40 respectively, and assigned labs for M.Tech. and Ph.D. students. Besides the laboratories and the classrooms, it has a small library with a seating arrangement for 10-12 people; a student lounge area that is accessible to students from all the departments and is mostly used to hold workshops and group discussions; three meeting-cum-discussion rooms; and reserved rooms for research staff and visiting faculty. The building is situated next to the Computer Center and is internally connected to the Rajeev Motwani building that partly houses the activities of the CSE department.
