Prof. Gautam Biswas gets ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award 2023 from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in recognition of his contributions to the Heat Transfer Division & wider heat and mass transfer community.
IIT Kanpur hosted the Y20 Consultation supported by the Ministry of Youth Support and Affairs as part of the G20 Presidency of India. The Y20 Consultation provided a platform for young minds to deliberate on three main topics - "Future of Health," "Technologies for Sustainable Future," and "Innovation in Future of Work." Over 1500 youth delegates participated.
The University of Buffalo, the State University of New York signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the IITK-UB Joint Centre of Excellence in Biomedicine & Bioengineering at IITK.
An alumni networking event was held in Melbourne, Australia on 15 March 2023 to strengthen relations and appraise them of the latest developments at the institute.
IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Hinduja Group on 4th March 2023. The Hinduja Group will provide mentorship and investment in the startups at the institute , facilitating their growth and expansion on a global level. Mr. Arun Tiwari, Group President, BFSI, Hinduja Group, and Chairman IndusInd Bank was present for the MoU signing.
IIT Kanpur and the University of Alberta, Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards collaborating for a Joint Degree Program (JDP) and be part of a Joint Research Innovation Network. Under the Joint Degree Program, the faculty members from two universities can supervise a PhD student jointly. This will allow students from either side to visit and carry out research work in the partner university. IIT Kanpur will also collaborate with the University of Alberta in the Joint Research Innovation Network with a focus on developing new, renewable, and efficient energy materials, systems and technologies for the clean energy transition to address the climate issues.
The 11th edition of the annual event, "E-SUMMIT," was organized by IIT Kanpur students from 13th-15th January 2023. Shri` B. V. R. Mohan Reddy, our distinguished alumnus, Founder, Chairman & Board Member-Cyient, was the chief guest for the inauguration session. The event hosted many distinguished speakers and panelists like Mr. Rajiv Batra, Founder of Palo Alto Networks; Mr. Sanjiv Rangrass, Independent Director Zetwerk & former Group Head, ITC; Mr. Ravi Purohit, Vice President & India Head at ColorTokens; Mr. Rishabh Jain, Co-Founder & Director, Kataria Ecotech Pvt Ltd, and Ms. Shweta Bajpai, Vertical Head –Finserv, Media, Travel, Meta India. The Summit had competitions, Industrial conclave, startup expo, talks, panel discussions & workshops.
Prof. Jayant K. Singh was awarded the NASI- Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award 2022, covering both physical and biological sciences. The award is constituted by the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and is given to an individual researcher for application-oriented innovations.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has signed an MoU with Apollo Hospitals for research in the clinical application of Artificialintelligence, Telemedicine, Genomics, and other areas of mutual interest in healthcare technology. The MoU was signed by Prof AR Harish, Dean R&D, IIT Kanpur, and Prof. Ganapathy Krishnan, Director of Apollo Telemedicine, Apollo Hospitals.
Prof. Krishanu Biswas, Department of the Materials Science and Engineering for being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K. His research interests are in understanding the phase transformation of various nanoscale materials prepared via various routes, solidification, mechanical alloying, chemical synthesis or severe plastic deformation. He is the current occupant of Ranjit Singh Chair.
Prof. M Jaleel Akhtar, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as 'IEEE Fellow' for his contributions in microwave planar sensors and nano-composites-based microwave absorbers.
Prof. S Ganesh (Dept of BSBE), Prof. Yogesh M. Joshi (Dept of Chemical Engineering), Prof. Javed Malik (Dept of Earth Sciences) and Prof. Arun Shukla (Dept of BSBE) have been elected as Fellows of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
A three-day literature festival, Akshar, was organized by the Shivani Center to commemorate the centenary year celebration of the life and works of famous Hindi author, Smt. Gaura Pant (‘Shivani’). The event was graced by eminent literary and academic personalities such as, Dr. Mrinal Pande, Dr. Pushpesh Pant, Prof. Shambhunath Tiwari; by poets and performers such as, Shri Veeru Sankar, pankaj Chaturvedi, Dr. Naresh Saxen, et al.

Prof. Katiyar is a faculty at Material Science & Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of Organics Electronics, Electronic Light Emitting Diodes, Organic Thin Film Transistors, Printable Electronics, Organic Solar Cells.
Prof. Jayant Singh, IITK alumnus and faculty gets elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). This is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the fields of engineering and technology. Prof. Singh is the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of material modeling, machine learning, self-assembly, and energy storage. Prof. Singh's desire to innovate disruptive product has led him to found Prescience Insilico Pvt. Ltd, in 2019, for translating the methods and framework for the next generated accelerated drug and material discovery using physics-based methods.
Prof. Nitin Saxena gets elected as the Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). This is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the fields of engineering and technology.
Prof. Saxena is a faculty at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of Computational Complexity and Algebraic Geometry.
Portescap has been supporting Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur for the last four years on different research initiatives, such as designing and developing a miniature rotary actuator based on flexinol SMA, an adaptive smart stick for sit-to-stand motion, an interactive cloud based diagnostic platform for oral cancer, etc. under #CSR funding.
Teachers' Day was celebrated at IIT Kanpur on 5 Sept. 2022. Prof. Partha P Chakrabarti (former Director IIT Kharagpur) Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The Foundation Stone laying ceremony of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology, and Yadupati Singhania Super Speciality Hospital was done by Hon'ble Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on 16 July 2022. The event was graced by the prominent members of the institute and IITK alumni, such as Dr. Radhakrishnan K. Koppilil (Chairman, BoG, IITK), donors Mr. Rakesh Gangwal, Mr. Hemant Jalan, Mr. Muktesh Pant, and Smt. Sushila Singhania, Dr. Nidhipati Singhania (Vice President, JK Organization & Director, JK Cement Ltd).
IIT Kanpur held its 55th Convocation on 29 June 2022. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder & Chairperson, Narayana Health Care, was the Chief Guest. The event was graced by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of Board of Governors, IITK; BoG members, Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Shri Pradeep Goyal, Dr. Manoj Gonugunthla, Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Prof. Manas K. Ghorai, and Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya. Attended by head of the departments, IITK faculty, and parents of graduating students, 1360 students were conferred degrees. Students were also issued digital degrees to all the graduating students using blockchain-driven technology developed at IIT Kanpur. The degrees are based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and unforgeable and globally verified.

Prof. Ashutosh Sharma (BT/CHE/1982) was selected as the President of the Indian National Science Academy in June 2022. He is an Institute Fellow and Distinguished Alumnus of IITK. Prof. Sharma served as the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is a recipient of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award in engineering sciences for his "original pioneering contribution to the understanding of the behavior of thin films and other highly confined nanoscale systems." A delegation from IIT Kanpur comprising of IITK Director; Prof. Abhay Karandikar, IITK Deputy Director; Prof. S. Ganesh, Prof. Yogesh M. Joshi, IITK Development Foundation CEO; Mr. Kapil Kaul visited the United States to interact with alumni, strengthen institute-alumni relations, and to chart a future roadmap of IITK.
In the first leg of the visit, the delegation interacted with the alumni at Indian Consulate, New York on 08 May 2022. Shri Randhir Jaiswal, Indian Consul General, was the Guest of Honor, and the event event was attended by more than 75 alumni. Our distinguished alumni, Mr. Rajeev Tandon, Dr. Dev Joneja, and Prof. Pawan were felicitated.
The second event that was held in Washington DC was attended by the Hon’ble Ambassador of Indian Embassy US, Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu and many of IITK alumni. IITK Distinguished alumnus, Dr. T. Venkatesan, Director, Centre for Quantum Research & Technology, University of Oklahoma, was felicitated. Keynote talks were given by our Distinguished alumni, Mr. Muktesh (Micky) Pant, Senior Advisor at Beyond Meat and, Mr. Sudhakar Kesavan, Executive & CEO at Inner City Fund.
IITK Karvaan delegation held its third event in Chicago for its next outreach event with alumni. The event, held in Union Chicago League Club, was attended by more than 120 alumni. IITK Distinguished alumnus, Dr. Rajeev Gautam, President & CEO of Honeywell Performance Materials & Technologies, was felicitated. IITK also signed an MoU with Dr. Rathin Dutta who committed an amount of USD 150 K for research in Sustainable Energy Engineering.
In the last leg of its trip, IITK karvaan held a grand event in San Francisco in India Community Center in Milpitas. Our Distinguished alumni, Dr. Anand Jagannathan, and Prof. Vijay Dhir were felicitated. Mr. Rakesh Gangwal, one of the biggest benefactors of IIT Kanpur, gave a keynote address emphasizing on the importance of giving back to IIT Kanpur. Attended by more than 300 alumni, the event was a grand success.
