Late Mr. Arun Kumar (BT/EE/1969) was the President and MD of Flextronics Software Systems. He hailed from the city of Lucknow and did his undergraduate studies from IITK in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Kumar went on to complete his Masters in Computer Science from the University of Missouri. Upon his return to India in 1995, Mr. Kumar started working with Hughes Network Systems and soon took the company into horizons of growth and expansion. Mr. Kumar was responsible for expanding HSS' business to newer markets and leading it into the business of products. Hughes Network Systems was later acquired by Flextronics Software Systems, a Singapore-based company, where Mr. Kumar served as the President & MD.
Arun Kumar Chair was set up by family members and friends of Mr. Kumar. The Chair is open to all the departments of sciences and engineering.
Prof. Aditya K. Jagannatham, Department of Electrical Engineering, research interests include next-generation wireless cellular and WiFi networks, with a special emphasis on various 5G technologies, and 6G technologies such as OTFS Modulation, Terahertz, Visible Light Communication (VLC), Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) Technology, and others. He received a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and an M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, San Diego, CA, USA. He has been awarded the P. K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship for excellence in research, multiple Qualcomm Innovation Fellowships (QIF 2018, 2022), the IIT Kanpur Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Upendra Patel Achievement Award at Qualcomm.
Prof. Aditya K. Jagannatham, Department of Electrical Engineering, works in the area of Multimedia Wireless Communications and supervises the Multimedia Wireless Networks lab at IIT Kanpur. His Lab carries out research in cutting-edge technologies for Next Gen Wireless Networks, with special emphasis on 5G. Prof. Jagannatham has authored the book - Principles of Modern Communications Systems (McGraw- Hill Education).
