Senate of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur recently approved a new postgraduate academic programme called "Master of Science (MS) by Research" in the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Environmental Engineering and Management; Mechanical Engineering; and Photonics Science and Engineering. Objective of this program is to promote project based and industry sponsored research (including sponsored projects based research). Applications are invited for admission to this post graduate programme for the academic session 2015-16-I semester commencing from 22 July, 2015.

Eligibility Criteria

MS by Research in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering: B.Tech/BS (4-year) /M.Sc. or equivalent degree with 55% marks/5.5 CPI (on a 10-point scale), and a valid GATE score (GATE is waived for sponsored and part-time candidates).

MS by Research in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering: B.Tech/BS (4-year) or equivalent degree with 55% marks/5.5 CPI (on a 10-point scale), and a valid GATE score (GATE is waived for sponsored and part-time candidates).

MS by Research in Environmental Engineering and Management, and Photonics Science and Engineering: B.Tech/BS (4-year) /M.Sc. or equivalent degree with 55% marks/5.5 CPI (on a 10-point scale), and a valid GATE score (GATE is waived for sponsored and part-time candidates). Candidates having B.Sc (3-year) or equivalent degree with 75% marks/7.5 CPI are also eligible to apply.

Financial Assistance

Some students having a valid GATE score may be provided financial assistantship (in the form of Institute Assistantship/Scholarship) at the rate of Rs. 12400/- per month for 22 months. Students in receipt of Institute Assistantship will be expected to carry out duties of Teaching and Research Assistantship assigned by the concerned Head of the Department. Others must be sponsored through project funding from their thesis supervisors (or) financial sponsorship must come from their parent industrial organization.

All applications must be filled online. After filling the online application, one has to take a print out and send it to the department concerned, along with all the certificates, photograph, and a draft for application fee. The list of attachments are provided on the application page.

The printed application form along with supporting documents and application fee must be received by the department(s) latest by June 19, 2015.
