Change Password

    From Inside IITK Network:

1.

Use SSH to connect to nis.cc.iitk.ac.in.

NOTE: For Windows: "ssh" / "Putty" client can be downloaded from the link.

If you are logging in for the first time you may get a rsa fingerprint as below:

rsa 2 key fingerprint

ssh-rsa 2048 59:d6:13:d4:9c:8f:d1:a5:36:e7:44:07:af:c1:45:65

2.

It will first ask you for your userid and current password.

3.

It will then automatically run the software to change your password, which will first ask you for your current password, and then asks you to type the new password twice.

In all, you type your old password twice, and your new password twice.

  Note:

The password change is effective immediately for the purpose of logging into PCs and servers, but the password change may propagate to mail server and proxies in the next half an hour or upto an hour .

In this period, the old password will continue to work on these services.
