National Leather Development Program (NLDP)
Some Important Events date wise

July, 1999
Commencement of the project titled - Support to Saddlery Industry in Kanpur, financed by UNDP and managed by NLDP, Govt. of India.

October, 1999
Decision to establish a training center as an important activity of the project.

November, 2000
Signing of MOU between NLDP and IIT-Kanpur for implementation of the project which paved the path of IIT-K having become the implementing Agency later.

December, 2000
Establishment of the Institute and commencement of the academic course in Saddlery Technology and Export Management.

May, 2001
Registration of IISTEM Society under the provisions of Societies Registration Act, 1860.

May , 2002
Launch of indigenously developed Polymeric Saddletree for commercial use by Saddlery Industry.

June, 2002
Approval   of   a    3-year Diploma in   Saddlery   Technology   and Export Management Course by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

September, 2002
U P Board of Technical Education granted affiliation to the 3-year Diploma Course.

December, 2002
Signing   of MOU between   the   IISTEM   and   Footwear   Design   and Development Institute (Noida) for the sustainability of IISTEM.

Shifting of the Instituted on to the newly constructed permanent premises Leather Technology Park Industrial Area, at Banthar Unnao (developed by UPSIDC) on Lucknow- Kanpur National   Highway , approximately 10 KM from Jajmau (Kanpur) towards Lucknow .

Inauguration of the new premises by Sri  Arun  Shourie Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce and Industry on 29th December.

September, 2003
Commencement of Course(s) in Footwear Manufacturing Technology and Footwear Designing.

July, 2004
Intake of Footwear Manufacturing and Footwear Design was increased from 20 to 50 and 20 to 25 respectively.

July, 2005
Introduction of Bridge course in Footwear manufacturing technology. which will trained the illiterate person in the Leather sector.

Introduction of export management & German Language course. The above course has been conducted in CLE office, HBTI campus Kanpur.

First convocation of IISTEM held on Lecture Hall-7 in IIT Kanpur. The chief guest of occasion was Honorable Shri.Sriprakash Jaiswal , The State Minister of Home affairs, Govt. of India.

November, 2005
The construction of New Footwear workshop has been completed in the November 2005.

The child labour welfare program sponsored by ILO Delhi has been given to the Institute in which child labour will be trained in Clicking, Closing and lasting field in the leather Industry.

March, 2006
A program on entrepreneurship development has been conducted in March 2006.
