First Runner Up Prize for Best Student Project in Aero India 2019

The innovative new Autonomous Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle called "Quadrotor Bi-plane Tailsitter UAV" designed and developed by PhD student Mr. Nidhish Raj of our lab was selected for display in student pavilion at Aero India 2019 and it was awarded the First Runner Up Prize for Best Student Project in Aero India 2019 among 125 entries. The student team consisted of Mr. Nidhish Raj, Mr. Animesh Shastry, Mr. Rama Krishna and Mr. Sourav Sinha. This design can be used for payload / medicine delivery, surveillance and Air Taxi etc. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000/- and certificates.

The UAV can take off and land vertically and smoothly transition between airplane and quadrotor modes. Mr. Nidhish Raj is jointly supervised by Dr. Mangal Kothari, me and Dr. Ravi Banavar (IIT Bombay).
