WHAT IS AIMS
Aerospace Internship Management System (AIMS) is a student driven programme developed for the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The primary goal of AIMS is to provide students with opportunities to explore their research interests and develop skills for working in the competitive field of aerospace engineering. Universities and laboratories from all over the world are invited to offer summer internships to our students. Students will work for 8-10 weeks in the offering universities/labs and apply their in-class theoretical understanding and laboratory exposures in concurrent research and engineering problem solving.
AIMS gives a fair chance of getting a summer internship to each registered student. The program is administered by the student coordinator. The faculty-in-charge of the program ensures smooth operation of the system by implementing AIMS policies and rules. The faculty-in-charge also acts as a judging authority in case of any dispute.
PURPOSE
- This initiative will introduce students to the current advancements in the Aerospace Engineering technologies and new research trends.
- The internships will enable students to apply their theoretical engineering skills gained in class to the real life engineering problems.
- The program is also aimed at developing a pool of competent and motivated leaders by introducing them to the real life engineering environment. This will also help them in learning the importance of work ethics and team strategies.
- The program is aimed at invoking the thinking process in students and motivates them to work to their best potential by providing them the required project/research facilities.
- The involvement of department faculties in the internship program will motivate students in developing result oriented approach in their projects and research.

- Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is one of the leading institutes in the field of science and technology. Its students, in the past, have proved that their ability to apply engineering skills in real life go unmatched. The rigorous academic curriculum and the competitive environment at IIT Kanpur give its students an edge in the contemporary student community.
- The internships will encourage students to pursue higher studies in their employer universities. The employer universities/labs will also get an opportunity to hire students at research positions upon completion of their degree/course.
- The student contacts and internships can help in initiating mutual student exchange programs at institute level. This will allow the students from other universities/labs to get an extensive academic and research exposure at IITK.
- The mutual academic relationships developed in this program will also open the gates for future research collaboration of IIT Kanpur with the employer universities.
