Background The growth of the Indian economy in the near future requires substantial investment in energy storage and hydrogen generation. The contemporary requirement of obtaining sustainable amounts of energy in an environmentally acceptable manner provide a unique challenge and hence, great opportunity for engineers and scientists. The proposed symposium aims to elucidate the chemical and electrochemical approaches in addressing the energy challenge. The focus will be on the fundamental science and engineering issues in generating and processing appropriate fuels (like hydrogen, methanol, solid state materials for battery applications) and electrochemical means to convert the fuels to more usable form.
